Lesson Seventeen
How to post on Forums for a Profit
“Your manuscript is both good and original but the part that is good is not original and the part that is original is not good”.
- Samuel Johnson
Don’t get me wrong, from the quote above. You might think me a little cynical about on line forums and in the beginning, I was. I found that many on line forums were full of spammers and charlatans who were using crappy lines to promote crappy products. But then I found a few terrific Internet Marketing forums like: -
http://www.warriorforum.com
http://www.concuryourniche.com
And another thing happened. Guru J covered forums and the rules of engagement in a lesson and three things happened: -
I made some valuable friendships;
I got subscribers from my posts
I made sales.
So here are the rules of engagement
-
Do not be tempted to spam for the one quick sale of your product. Instead, do these things: -
-
Pick forums that are moderated strictly. If a site is full of spam, it is a total waste of time;
-
set a maximum time limit for your forum work i.e. 30 minutes a day or 3 hours each week. I prefer 3 hours in one session split in to the 3 forums I mentioned earlier;
-
pick forums that get a lot of traffic as this will increase your odds of both learning and selling.
Following these rules for maximum R.O.T.I (Return On Time Invested)
-
Be polite – When I first jumped on line under a silly alias, that has been long buried, I tried to make a big impression by bragging, thinking that my off line success would impress people on line. Remember, that forums are communities and to be accepted in to a community as a new comer, you need to be very polite. Rather than being rude on line and hiding behind your IP address, my advice would be to imagine you are talking to the heavyweight boxing champion of the world and that he has a PhD from Harvard.
On forums like Warrior Forum, you are instantly exchanging ideas and learning from Internet Marketing Gurus who have made millions on line. So make your point but do it respectfully.
Use a signature file and include a link to your website or your product. This will increase your search engine link popularity and lets fellow forum users know what you are all about.
Make a real contribution – be real, be personal and comment sincerely on people’s ideas and products. This could be a weekly or daily event for ten years or longer so start as you wish to continue.
Use key phrases when you post. The search engines index many of the popular forums, so use your keywords in the subject line i.e. “Guruswipe special announcement”.
Balance your time between starting new relationships and building your business. If you don’t get what I mean with this, read Dale Carnegie's famous book “How to Win Friends and Influence People”
