Lesson Nine
Setting your Computer to Watch for Trends
Well before my fateful first lesson and my dance with the Guru’s pet whippet’s shit, Guru J use to play with my head a little. You see I started to promote an affiliate program and with my complete lack of knowledge, I was doing some very amateur blogs and posting and even some immature postings on forums. Every time I did, Guru J would say “read your post on xyz Pauly that was a good one…ha”. It was like he had a spy camera on me watching my every move.
Let me explain a couple of key tools we use.
-
Google Alerts
http://www.google.com/alerts
Once you have a Google account, this is free. Simply type in your search term (i.e.) the name of the affiliate program you are promoting, then enter and click on the term comprehensive and select how often you wish to receive your email reports.

Whenever anyone, anywhere uses the term “Guruswipe” I will be sent an email so I can see how the term is being used and what our affiliates are up to.
2. Tools
They are all free and once you have worked out what it is you wish to research, they are all valuable resources. Before I show these tools, can you answer the following questions?
-
What market are you forgetting?
-
Who is your market?
-
What are they looking for?
-
What do you want them to do when they visit your site?
-
Who is your competition?
-
Are they hungry for the food you are cooking?
-
Can they afford the meal?
3. E Bay Pulse
http://pulse.ebay.com
This gives you a daily snapshot of current trend based on what e Bay users are searching for. e Bay is the 20th most visited website on the planet and this tool can help you select which markets are worth playing in.
The e Bay pulse top ten popular searches is also a great tool to monitor what’s happening on line.
4. Hot Trends
Hot trends is the latest tool to come out of Google labs and this shows you the top 100 terms searched for in the week prior to your search. You can actually compare searches by simply separating the terms with a comma in the Google search trends box.
5. Amazon.com
http://www.amazon.com
