Whether you have a personal website with no profit motives and just a meassage that you want to get out or you manage the website of a large commercial operational you will probably share one common goal.

And the common goal that unites you and about 200 million others is the goal to rank well for the search term that matches with the topic that your website is about,if there is 10,000 searches for the term that most closely matches the topic that you have built your website about and you rank 9999 this is not a good thing.

So on this page I will explain how to submit your website to Google and also make a few suggestions that will hopefully ensure that your site appears when someone searches on your websites chosen subject.

Submitting your website to Google is a really simple process,getting your website to rank highly is a more involved project and if it were not a challenge thousands of online entrepreneurs would suddenly be unemployable and back to their old day jobs.

If you build a website with some good original content the Googlebots will find you in time but I find it a much simpler gameplan to always submit my websites manually in the first step to gain a good ranking.It really is quite simple to do and to beginn with you simply visit www.google.com/addurl/

A page will then appear asking you to add your url to Google,you then simply enter the address of your homepage and then enter any comments that you wish to make about your website.A button on this page towards the bottom is the add url button so at this point you simply click the button and your website is then added to the Googlebots crawl list and be recognised in Googles search results.

It is important that I point out that your homepage address is the only address you need to submit,as the Googlebot will automatically crawl you entire website once it finds your homepage url.

To submit your sitemap in the most effective and thorough way I would suggest downloading the Google Sitemap generator tool and following the simple instructions that come with the tool.

When you finish following the instructions and you have created your sitemap you can then upload it to your own Google account by doing the following things.

1.You need to upload the sitemap to the root directory of your website

2.Visit your sitemap My Sites page and click on the sitemaps tab.

3.Simply click on the add a sitemap link.

4.You will then be prompted to pick the type of sitemap you want to add.Most times this will be a general web sitemap

5.You will then need to check the box that says that you have created a sitemap in a supported format and that you have also uploaded the sitemap to your websites root or highest level directory.

6.Enter your url for the sitemap file.

7.Lastly you will need to click the add web sitemap button.
