Lesson Eighteen

Technical Tips from the Guru

"Where large sums of money are concerned it is advisable to trust nobody".

 - Agatha Christie

When I was first on line I was very trusting but now I am a little more careful.

The first tech tip the Guru shared with me was the concept that I should be using redirect

 pages for any of the affiliate programs that I was promoting. The little bit of code that

 the Guru showed me how to write, ensures that dishonest affiliates who try to steal my hard

 earned commissions will fail almost every time.

Tech Tip One

The best way to set up a redirect page for your affiliate promotions is to register a fresh domain name.

For the $7-10 annual cost of having your domain name registered, you are almost certainly saving

hundreds in lost commission.

I will explain so it is clear, if I am about to promote a new Click bank product and for the purpose

 of the exercise the company is a wholesale consumer goods supplier called salehoo.com.

www.salehoo1.com

Is a company that has a terrific affiliate program that converts extremely well, so to protect

 or cloak my affiliate link when I run a pay-per click advertising campaign, this is what I do.

1. Register a new domain name  - www.guruswipe.com/retail/html

Then, no matter how many different products that I promote that are wholesale or retail

 physical products, I always use the code that follows and you can copy it for your own use: -

 <html>

<head>

<title>Connecting...thankyou</title>

</head>

<body>

<script language="JavaScript">

<!_ _

window.location.replace( "http://hop.clickbank.net.cgi?salehooswipe1234' );//..>

</script>

<p>

<p>

<BR>

<BR><BR><BR>

<BR> If you are not redirected within 4 seconds.<ahref="http://hop.clickbank.net/hop.cgi?

 salehooswipe1234">please click here</a>.

 <BR>

</body>

</html>

Naturally the most important thing to do is replace my link.

The effect that this page will have is that it will set the cookie for the affiliate program

that you are promoting and then re-direct the user to the sales page of your chosen product.

I have the page saved on my computer as my “redirect.html” so that I can simply open it in a

text editor and replace the affiliate link to the new one of my choosing.

Then I just upload it without needing to change the name to my guruswipe.com domain via FTP.

My advice would be to set up a few domains just for redirect purposes.

1. http://guruswipe.com/retail html - for all retail products

2. http://guruswipe.com/info.html - for all informational products

3. http://guruswipe.com/software.html - for all software products that I promote

You get the picture.

The code that I have written above has a simple link in it in case the person has set their

 browser to high security and does not allow a Javascript to run in their browser.

So by using Tech Tip One you can stop your valuable affiliate commissions being hijacked.

Tech Tip Two - Create Strong Passwords

Before I pretend that the Guru made me any real promises with regards to this tip,

 I will admit that he wrote me the following Skype message in relation to my

 question about having secure passwords -

Paul there is no such thing as a perfect password and if a hacker is

 committed enough he can crack any password but at least if your protection

 is strong enough, the hacker will often become frustrated and look for an easier target”.

The advanced on line dictionaries that hackers use can make up to 45 attempts per minute

 and given that if a hacker finds an opening they will often work hours or days to crack your password.

So if your password is AA123 or uses a simple word like “cat” or “dog” change it NOW!!!

Here are the Gurus 5 quick tips on creating a great password:

1. Make it long, 10 characters is good but 14 is better.

2. Pick a phrase that means something to you then make a few of the characters upper case

 and a few lower case, then add one or two non-alphabetic characters.

3. Change your password religiously every two or three weeks.

4. Never, ever use password keeper programs. Never write down hints for yourself next

 to the actual passwords. Never keep a written file of passwords in your office.

5. Use different passwords for each account.

I know this sounds complex but just talk to someone who has been

the victim of a hacker and as an Internet marketer this is your livelihood.

If you doubt that the technology exists to easily steal what you are working on online

 if you don't take precautions check out the perfectly legal program below.

Tech Tip Three - Control Your Windows

Just two little ease of use tips to finish off this lesson.

When your back is aching and your eyes failing you early in the morning

 as you read the latest e book you have purchased or study an affiliate

program you are about to smash sales records on, use these simple tips:

1. For better web page viewing and to instantly get rid of all your add-ons on screen,

take your hand to the top of your keyboard and then move along until you see

 the F11 key and then hit it.

See you now have a full screen that is much easier to concentrate with just hit

 the F11 key to restore to a normal screen view.

2. Control your default font size for easier viewing again and great when you are typing

 articles or web page content.

Simply click view menu and select the text size.

Both simple tips I know but actually taking the time to get to know your computer

will save you time and make business much, much easier.
